Narrative Reflection prompt:
Have you done a similar type of writing in the past? Does your narrative tell a story? What does this piece reveal about you as a learner? What did your classmates notice about the piece during the peer review? Is it what you wanted the reader to notice? What would you have to change to get them to notice what you want them to notice?
My Response:
The narrative I wrote was about a time when I had little experience with death, and the thought of its permanence. I decided to reflect on how I had no remorse on different forms of life like ants, which reminded me of a similar narrative I wrote for my college essay. On my college essay I decided to reflect on how I was a timid and very socially anxious kid, and how I was trying to work on it and be more extroverted. I believe my narrative does tell a story as it showcases how my feelings and thoughts towards ants are negative at the beginning to positive at the end. This piece helped me understand that I am able to question ideas, and come to new conclusions even as I finish writing the story. My classmate noticed that the usage of sensory details was able to easily create images in their mind, however there was a lack of story. I did succeed in being descriptive but at the expense of story quality, therefore I attempted to add more details in the setting and actions in the story, while keeping reflection; hopefully creating more of a connection with the reader. I now understand for the next time to include more details in the setting to expand the world while creating a better scenario for the reader.
